Social Media and Your Security
In this day and age of constant tweeting, posting and snapping what you are doing at any moment in time. One has to wonder, exactly how safe are you on the internet? Like, I've explained in my last blog, our information is already out there on the internet, and yes you do need to be okay with it, but there is such a thing as oversharing. Although it's being on social media has become near necessity these days, if you don't know what you should share or post, you will become vulnerable and you can be a perfect victim for hackers.
Small Business Are at Risk!
Yes, it's true that hackers don't discriminate when it comes to getting private, and potentially vulnerable information. Remember the Ashley Madison hack? Analysts found out that the hackers were able to get into these accounts because the passwords were just too easy for them to guess. In fact, the most commonly used passwords were either 123456 or password. The attackers of the infamous Target hack, got all the passwords and credit card information by simply rolling out a phishing email from one of it's third party vendors. Yup, that's right the hackers were smart enough to compromise a third party vendor than the company itself. If this can happen on a large scale, imagine what damage it can do on a smaller scale.
How Can I Protect My Social Media?
With more and more brands using location marketing to track their consumers everywhere they go. It is now more important than ever to protect yourself. It's recommended that you change your password every quarter to wean the hackers away. Looking for the signs of phishing email can prevent hack attacks as well. As far as social media goes, you can't overshare, simple as that because Facebook keeps everything on file, every photo, every status update and yes even private messages you send.
