Social for the Holidays: Chatbot Edition

The leaves are changing, the weather is getting colder, and the smell of hot cocoa is in the air. It's that time of year again! For many businesses that means the holiday season is right around the corner. With that comes holiday campaigns for your products and services. Social media holiday campaigns are the most competitive campaigns you can do for the entire year, but there are some things you can do to make it easier. We have discussed the use of AI in social media before in another post, but we haven't talked about how you can use it in a holiday campaign.

`Using a ChatBot

What is a ChatBot? It's a software that is designed to simulate human conversation through messaging apps such as Messenger. These bots can take over a lot of the low level customer support for a big campaign. Chatbots use the same technology as the virtual assistants that you have on your smartphone, like Siri and Cortana. Depending on your needs, you can create your Chatbot with a low level decision tree for your customers or have a full blown conversation with them! In fact, 41% of businesses are currently using Chatbots in their campaigns right now. The year over year growth has been huge for Chatbots as well.

The Numbers Are Rising!

Less than half of the US population uses messaging apps and that number is expected to climb to 85% in a business setting by 2020. Simply because consumers want fast and reliable service that email can't provide for these types of campaigns. It also might be because most people (like myself) don't really like spending a half an hour to talk to someone on the phone about an issue or comment about the service which could be solved in less than ten mins in total over the phone or even better, five minutes on Chatbot. In fact 56% of consumers would rather message a store through social media than spend time on the phone with customer service.

How Can I Use It for My Holiday Campaign?

There are three ways you can use Chatbots this holiday season.

  1. Give gift recommendations! 1/5 of Americans say that they used a Chatbot for making gift recommendations from a business page!

  2. Create wishlists! You can set up your Chatbot to create a wishlist that a customer can send to their family and friends painlessly.

  3. Reveal new promos - especially for the holidays! You can use push notifications to figure out who's been on your page earlier and make limited time offers for the holidays. Open rates for promos are a whopping 75% for Chatbots vs 5-10% through email marketing.
