5 Ways to Create a Winning Social Media Strategy for 2020!
Can you believe it's already November? I swear I keep saying this every single year; the year went by way too fast! The air is getting colder, the leaves are already starting to fall, and it's also time to get out your boots and sweaters! You know what that also means though right? It's also time to plan your holiday strategy and your 2020 strategy! Don't worry the 2019 Holiday Survival Guide is coming soon, but I am just going to be talking about the 2020 Social Media Strategy today.
1. Create Create Create!
The very first thing you need to be doing in 2020 is to just create content and get ideas for content. I can tell you one thing I am planning on doing for 2020 is to create more video tutorials for my audience! That's right, if you are reading this right now, it's probably because you are someone that I talked to already and you might be getting some free tutorials from me soon! If you are a coach or a consultant, you could also offer a free workshop in your local area, get someone to record the whole session, slice it up and BOOM you have 30 days of content right there,
2. Know Your Audience!
This is something I said in my last blog for this year's strategy. You really have to know who you are marketing to in order to get people to buy what you really want them to buy. If you don't know who is currently buying your stuff vs the people who you want to buy your stuff then you have a major problem. There is no strategy in that, and once you figure it all out, it's very simple. The first couple of months with my clients is all about figuring out who they want to target vs who is already buying their products or services. We find out if this is the audience they want, and if it is then we find out how to make it better. If it isn't, then we dive deep into their social media strategy and figure out what is going wrong. Sometimes it's the language in their FB ads, sometimes it's the pictures they are using to post, and most of the time it's the client not understanding their audience at all.
3. Only Post on Social Channels Relevant to Your Industry
I cannot stress this enough. If you are tech company that is always posting on Pinterest, you really need to take a step back and wonder why your social media strategy isn't working when you are posting on the one site that is dedicated to moms over 30 that only pin posts about making weight loss smoothies and vegan dinners. Now, I am NOT saying you can't be a tech company and post on Pinterest, but you certainly can't make it your 2020 social media strategy. For a tech company, your best bet would be marketing to other businesses on LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. Instagram, Pinterest or TikTok wouldn't work as these are more "fun" channels and not B2B oriented. If you are B2C, then Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube would make a lot more sense.
4. Plan Plan Plan!
The key to an amazing strategy is planning ahead of time. If you start planning your 2020 now, with events you are going to be at, content you are going to create, days you can create content around, then you will be a lot better off than someone who is just creating content on the fly. The faster you can get a rough plan together, the easier the process will be once the clock strikes 12 on New Years Day. Let's say you are a yoga teacher in the Southwest region of the United States. Your plan is to make yoga videos every day on YouTube until you reach 20,000 subscribers and post little bits of your videos on all of your social media pages. This would be a great strategy if you weren't posting to YouTube all the time. Take your content and post it everywhere on channels that matter (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) and push it all over. You may not get to 20,000 right away, but keep in mind that you must be doing other things like gathering an email list to keep your audience engaged. Otherwise when God forbid, LinkedIn, YouTube or IG account gets shut down you will have a backup.
5. Get a Manager!
Seriously, if you are already overwhelmed with what I am telling you, it's best that you get a good social media manager that knows what they are doing!
Here's what a social media manager is NOT:
Someone who posts random images to your pages without consolidating you.
Someone who creates a social account and never posts without your permission
Someone who is running your email marketing, SEO, your website AND your social media pages. (Ladies and gentlemen, that's a digital marketing manager, not a social media manager)
Here is what a good social media manager IS:
Someone who works WITH you to create a solid strategy for the social media pages you choose to focus on
Someone who takes the time and energy to get to know you and your business, so they can create the copy in your voice.
Someone who is just focused and dedicated to your social media pages and is paid for such.
Someone who is your partner in your journey to success for 2020.
