Social Media's Role in Commerce
How many times have you viewed an ad on Facebook only to buy the service or product later on? 🙋🏽 There's been an incredible surge in how social media is changing the way people buy things. The stats are there: more people are willing to buy from a recommendation from a friend or from brands they trust. What is social media's role in this? Well since most people post their lives on social media, more people are willing to buy things their friends bought if they post it on social. This is why MLM brands like lularoe work so well.
Why Influencer Marketing Works
This is also why influencer marketing works so well. Most millennials follow at least one brand or one person they know and trust. This makes it easier for anyone to buy anything off of them. For example, is someone sees someone they know and trust on their page, they are more likely to buy something off of them because they trust them. It's basic human psychology. The best example I can use for successful influencer marketing is the Dance Moms kids. All the original girls are influencers and came up at the time Instagram rose. They all got Instagram accounts soon after they became big and got to become IG famous. Tween brands wanted to work with them and the rest is history. A lot of these girls became interested in fashion, and of course, Jojo Siwa and her bows, which eventually landed her a campaign with Claire's and Target.
How Does My Brand Benefit?
Your brand can benefit from campaigns like that one because you can get a 10x return on your campaign. While influencer marketing is one of the many services I offer, it's not one I truly like. Why? Because it's too dependent on one platform; Instagram. Instagram is facing a big decline in organic reach lately, and it's only a matter of time before organic reach starts going the way of FB and Google; completely dependent on ads. I am sure many Influencer Marketing gurus are gonna fight with me to the bone on that's not the case, it is. I am not saying that Influencer Marketing is dead, it just needs to be shifted. I still see YouTube, TikTok, and Snapchat as big markets for influencers, which can benefit all businesses in general.
How Does it Increase My Bottom Line?
More sales! Yes, social media when used correctly in influencer marketing campaigns and a lot more campaigns can be used to increase your revenue by a ton. However, this doesn't mean that social media marketing should be used as a silver bullet. I see this so many times with small businesses trying to get the most marketing out of very little money and it doesn't always work to their advantage. While you may be using companies in the Philippines and in Asia that can do your social media for you for more than half the price, they probably will make a ton of mistakes cause they won't know your brand. There's also the added factor of a language barrier, which makes it difficult to communicate. Investing in someone that is more local (mean same country or similar) that will understand your brand is much better.
